Full Description

[TR14885768] Roman building. (1) (TR14895766) Roman town house. Parts of a Roman winged corridor building were excavated in 1982 by the Canterbury Archaeological Trust, which had been discovered by Professor Frere between 1950-51. The building was constructed cAD175 and had foundations of flint and mortar, with clay floors and timber-framed clay walls decorated with wall plaster. Around the mid fourth century the printed plaster and clay walls collapsed and a small timber structure was built over part of the levelled area. (2-4) Additional bibliography. (5)
