Findspot record TR 15 NW 207 - Tyler Hill pottery, Eliot College

Summary

Possible Medieval pottery kiln, part of the Tyler Hill pottery industry, identified during construction of Eliot College at the University of Kent, Canterbury in 1965. The kiln was represented by finds of pottery including wasters and burnt clay recovered from a clay pit. The pottery is in a sandy, micaceous firing fabric, often having an olive green glaze. Forms recovered included jugs, dishes and cooking pots. The kiln appeared to be production during the late 13th century.
