Monument record TR 15 NW 279 - Remains of Road Street (Stour Street, Canterbury)

Summary

In Spring 1985 excavations beneath the floor of No 19 Stour Street took place. Only the post-medieval levels were fully excavated (TR 15 NW 658), but evidence of medieval features (TR 15 NW 657) and a Roman Street were also revealed. The medieval floor layers sat on a dump of silty loam, flooding form the River Stour, and beneath is was the surface of a Roman street running along the west side of the temple precinct (TR 15 NW 633).
