Full Description
(TR 14865771) Roman shops and a Smith's workshop were discovered during a brief excavation in the cellar of 35 St Margaret's Street, whose brick floor, 7 feet below the present street, directly overlay Roman levels. A sequence of Flavian to med 2nd century timber-framed shops were located fronting on to the south side of a road discovered on the Marlowe II side (TR 15 NW/293). An early 2nd century phase produced evidence of a possible enameller's or bronze-smith's workshop. The workshop was pre-dated by an industrial area which comprised a furnaceand a flint-lined well in an open courtyard. (1)
