Full Description

(TR 14765790 sited from description). Observations were made during the reconstruction of a collapsed revetting wall on the east bank of the River Stow at the rear of the G.P.O. premises in Stour Street by F Jenkins in 1951. The bed of the 12th century river channel was located over which was a thick build-up layer containing 13th century pottery. The virtual absence of Roman material throughout the excavated area corroborates with other evidence in suggesting that this branch of the river is post-Roman in date. (1-2)
