The Lion Inn, later called The Guildhall Tavern closed in 1908, and eventually was demolised together with most of the ancient Guildhall.

Full Description

(TR 14885784 sited from plan) 'The Lion Inn' site of - shown at the end of Guildhall Street, 1806, at its junction with High Street. (1)

The Canterbury UAD states:
The first licence for the Guildhall Tavern was issued in 1807 to William Wiltshire. In 1809 a Masonic Festival was held at the inn.

An 1838 directory names Henry Jones as innkeeper and refered to as The Guildhall Hotel and Tavern.

Mrs Mary Ann Stone was innkeeper 1865/67.
1889 Mr G R Stratford

The inn closed in 1908. Eventually most of the ancient Guildhall along with the Tavern was demolished. (2)
