Full Description

TR 191530. Nine barrows, standing by the side of a Roman road, were excavated by Fausett (a) in 1771. He found ten chalk-cut graves, heads to west. They were very sparcely furnished, but finds included three coffins (one said to have been burnt), two knives, three pots and a pin. [Jessup notes a large barrow circle in the area TR 190531: he thought it possibly Roman. See TR 15 SE 5]. (1) Bourne Park is now under plough and there is no trace of these barrows. (2)
