Full Description
(TQ 5238 6500) Romano-British occupation, probably 1st c. A.D. Unpublished. (1)
The site is a low ditched mound, the ditch being subsequently destroyed by war-time ploughing. Pottery fragments, part of a roofing tile and flint flakes were found 1938-40 and 1947. A possible post hole 34 ft. west of the centre of the mound was probed. (2)
This low mound, some 20.0 m in diameter, is situated on a false crest at TQ 5239 6501. Its remains are too meagre for any assessment. (3)
Col. Meates is not convinced it is artificial. The pottery, which was not preserved, was dated by Col. Meates to the early 1st c. (a) (3)
