Full Description
[TR 13035327 - surveyed but not named on O.S. 1961.] A cross-dyke 150 yds. long with ditch on west, called Deadman's Bank, runs across the road immediately south of Little Iffin Wood on Chartham Downs. It is destroyed north of the road by a modern chalk pit, above which it is seen as a lynchets which can be followed westward through the wood parallel to the southern edge after which it emerges as a modern field boundary. (1) TR 13025330. This feature is as described by Crawford except that it is unassociated with the lynchet that lies beyond its northern termination. Its position and general appearance suggest it is an obstruction of comparatively recent date, rather than a true cross-dyke. Surveyed at 1.2500. (2)
