Summary

A site at Hampton, Herne Bay has produced a range of material including flints, pottery and animal remains. The pottery included sherds described at the time as Early Iron Age, apparently associated with hearths.

Full Description

An E.I.A. site at Hampton, Herne Bay, consisted of hearths associated with fragments of coarse, gritty, well-baked pottery, flakes, cores, scrapers, pigmy flints, calcined flints and hammer stones. A selection of flints and sherds together with animal teeth and oyster shells, part of the Armstrong Bowes Collection, is on exhibition in Herne Bay Museum. No further information as to the exact provenance and date of finds could be obtained. Three "Thames picks" from Hampton are also displayed and may have come from this site. (1-5)
