Full Description
[TR 1760 6010 Ch [NAT] (1) Church of St Nicholas, Sturry. The chancel and walls of the nave are Norman. Other parts are C12th - C15th. The tower contains several string courses of Roman tiles. (2,3) In normal use. (4) Church of St Nicholas (formerly listed under Mill Road), Church Lane, Sturry. Grade I. Built of flint and stone rubble with tiled roof. The chancel and the walls of the nave are Norman, Tower in 3 stages with crenellated parapet, the lower stages C12 having clasping buttresses with banding, the battlements C15. The arcades and aisles are C14 to C15, the timber-framed N porch C14. Four bay nave with kingpost roof. Piscina, C13 font. (5) Additional bibliography. (6) (9)

2. Built of flint and stone rubble with tiled roof. The chancel and the walls of the nave are Norman, Tower in 3 stages with crenellated parapet, the lower stages C12 having clasping buttresses with banding, the battlements C15. The arcades and aisles are C14 to C15, the timber-framed north porch C14. Four bay nave with kingpost roof. Piscina, C13 font. The churchyard contains oval bodystones and some C18 headstones with cherub or skull motifs.
