Monument record TR 16 SE 7 - Brett's Pit, south of railway line

Summary

Roman occupation site of the 2nd-3rd, and probably 4th century, excavated in advance of gravel extraction. Extensive oak piles dated by tree ring analysis to the 3rd century indicated a quay on the bank of an old course of the River Stour. Evidence of a small kiln was also found.
