Monument record TR 16 SE 24 - Belgic Urn in Gravel pit, N-W of Whatmer Hall

Summary

An Iron Age pedestal urn containing cremated bones was found in 1925 near Whatmer Hall. A small Belgic urn was found in the same area in 1930.

Full Description

On exhibition in Herne Bay Public Library are a pedestal urn with burnt bones found in 1925 at Whatmer Hall, and a small Belgic burial urn of a reddish ware found in August, 1930, at the same place. No information was gained on the circumstances of finding but they possibly came from a long disused gravel pit situated about 80.0m to the west of Whatmer Hall at TR 18166080. (1,4)
