Summary

In September 1967 work on a land drain uncovered a mass of early 13th century tile, apparently debris from a tile kiln, at the edge of Clowes Wood. Pieces were identifided as being identical to slipped and glazed tiles that form what appears to be the earliest pavement at Faversham Abbey.
