An Early Bronze Age flint dagger in Folkestone Museum (Acc. No. 21-1935) was found c. 1924 by Mr. G. R. Mack (a builder) during the construction of a rainwater tank in the garden of the first bungalow at the corner of Battery Lane, Capel-le-Ferne; it lay at a depth of about 2 feet in undisturbed soil and a core of soil in line with the implement suggested a haft some 18 to 20 inches in length. Battery Lane is an old local name for Cauldham Lane, and the first bungalow `Homestead' has such a rainwater tank centred TR 24723847. Unfortunately the owner, a lady of very advanced years, had just died, but local enquiries ascertained that it is the only rainwater tank in the area and there can be little doubt that this is the find spot of the dagger.
