Full Description
[TR 20833801] An earthen jug, of the "early Saxon period", was found by Smith in the barrow to the west of Caesar's Camp, near Folkestone. A fowl's spur and some bones of the foot were also found. The jug was deposited in the Museum of Mr. Rolfe of Sandwich. (1)(2)
No further information on this jug or its present whereabouts was gained, Rolfe being dead many years and his collection dispersed. The description suggest it came from the B.A. barrow on Cherry Garden Hill (TR 23 NW 1) in which there was a probable secondary burial. No other barrow was traced in this direction along the main escarpment. (5)
