Full Description
TR 214379. Castle Hill, Folkestone. A silver penny of King Stephen c.AD 1135-1154 was found on Castle Hill. Pitt-Rivers in his excavations of the fortifications (TR 23 NW 2) also recovered a similar coin and so the two coins may indicate an approximate date for their erection. A small 4th century Roman coins was found on top of the Norman ramparts. This was probably moved in the chalk to form the outer rampart and may have originated from the centre. (1)
