Summary

Lead matrix of a seal, found on or near the downs by Caesar's Camp, Folkestone. Discovered during drainage operations. It has a lion passant and inscribed +SIGILLVM SECRETI. It bears some resemblance to a seal of the time of Henry II (1216-1272).

Full Description

Lead matrix of a seal, found on or near the downs by Caesar's Camp (TR 214379), Folkestone. Discovered during drainage operations. It has a lion passant and inscribed +SIGILLVM SECRETI (see illustration card). It bears some resemblance to a seal of the time of Henry II (1216-1272). It was exhibited by H S Cowper at a meeting ot the Soc. of Antiquarieson 18 May 1911. (1)
