A close group of three deneholes at Lydden were visited in 1906. They were about 420ft above sea level, near the top of the hillside north-east of the village. (1a) They are sunk through about 2ft of clay-with-flints into the chalk. `A' at TR 27094604 consists of a shaft about 8.0m in depth and 1.5m in diameter with chambers visible at the bottom. `B' at TR 27114604 is a collapsed double-trefoil chambered denehole consisting of a shaft, 1.5m in diameter and 4.5m in depth, the south side of which has been destroyed by a partial collapse of two of the chambers. In 1906 the depth from the surface to the bottom of the shaft was given as 22 or 23ft (1a) (see illus). `C' at TR 27124603 consists of a shaft, 1.5m in diameter, blocked by rubbish at a depth of 4.0m. A depression to the south denotes a collapsed chamber. In 1906 the depth of the shaft was given as about 30ft (1a) (see illus). Surveyed at 1:2500. (1-4) Photographs (5-7)
