Full Description
TR 20004152: Much denuded round barrow 93 feet in diameter and 3 feet in height. There are faint traces of a ditch which is said to have been "significant" before the war. Dug by the owner Mrs. Denison without success but there is a tradition of Anglo-Saxon burials from the site. (1) A large mound some 25.0m in diameter and 1.4m in height: an apparent ditch on the N and E may be nothing more than an old track but rank grass obscures it and it is not possible to be explicit. The large size and position at the head of a coombe facing SW suggest it to be a windmill mound rather than a barrow. Surveyed at 1:2500. The `dig' by Mrs. Denison consisted of a trial trench only. (a) Large dead trees on it indicate it has not been ploughed for many years. (2) Additional references (3-6)
