Full Description
TR 254551. Mesolithic adze, Goodnestone. Dr. J Ogilvie picked up a mesolithic adze on the surface of ploughed open field where only a thin layer of top-soil covered the chalk at Goodnestone. It is `crudely chipped bi-facially worked' with the cutting edge formed with a transverse blow. The flint is milky white. The chipping has removed the whole of the original cortex. It is 10.7cms long and weighs 162 grams (see illustration card). It is being given to the Royal Museum, Canterbury by Lord Fitzwalter. (1)
