Full Description
Twelfth to thirteenth century pottery was discovered in 1960 along thecourse of a water-pipe trench from Stourmouth to Adisham, crossing theA257 Canterbury to Sandwich road at (approximately TR 248 580, see mapsites 43 and 44). A pot was found under the A257 and another from thesame "vague" pits a few feet south of the road. It is considered thatthese are evidence that a Medieval settlement of some extent, but undefined character, existed in this vicinity on Gobery Hill. (The following sites were also recorded on the course of the water pipeline: TR 25 NW 48, 49, 50, 52 and 53; TR 26 SE 16, 17, 18 and 19.)(1)
