Full Description

TR 287505. A round barrow thirty feet in diameter with a surrounding ditch, containing two L.B.A. or E.I.A. cremations was discovered in 1911 on a ridge of a hill at Tilmanstone during extensions to the colliery. It is described in the T. W. Whiteley manuscript in the library of the Kent Archaeological Society. The burials were embedded ten feet into the chalk and were accompaniedby an incense cup, pottery vessels and animal and bird bones. The exact site of the barrow could not be determined during field investigation, nor could the present whereabouts of the finds, which were formerly in the Kent Collieries Museum at Dover and later removed to London.
