Full Description
The Ashford and Hastings Railway opened in 1851, following an acrimonious battle between the South Eastern which gained controlling powers, and the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway Companies. On opening day, the line's terminus at Bopeep Junction was opened to give access to the LBSCR's link to Hastings and St Leonards station (later St Leonards Station), but blocked by the SER to prevent through access. Several incidents occurred in the area between the companies until a court injunction was obtained by the LBSCR. it wasn't until 1870 that LBSCR trains were allowed to stop at St Leonards (Warrior Square).
