Full Description

Three sites of rectilinear enclosure, poss a moated site given its lowlying position (1) and site photographs (2-10).

The cropmark remains of a group of rectilinear enclosures of a possible medieval settlement located on the former western edge of the Isle of Thanet just below the 5m contour on the former mouth of the inlet of the Brooksend Stream. The site comprises a rectilinear enclosure 33m x 37m with traces of a further enclosures, pits and ditches to the north at TR 27941 68828 and a second settlement to the south with traces of sunken features and pits within the remains of a ditched enclosure c. 25m x 29m at TR27908 68762. Both settlement sites were mapped fromaerial photographs NMR 1660/435 16-JUL-1979 and EARTH.GOOGLE.CO, 3/2022 ACCESSED 20-MAY-2024 as part of the Historic England Isle of Thanet project in 2024 (11-12).
