Full Description

Small rectilinear feature, possibly a structure, and an assoc. area feature (1) and site photographs (2-10).

A possible medieval rectilinear settlement enclosure, pits and ditches mapped from aerial photographs NMR 1660/435 16-JUL-1979 and EARTH.GOOGLE.CO, 3/2022 ACCESSED 20-MAY-2024. The site appears as a cluster of fragmented ditched enclosures with traces of sub-divisions, pits, fragments of linear ditch (associated boundaries) and areas of negative features or extraction. The site lies just below the 5m contour at the former mouth of the inlet of the Brooksend Stream into the Wade Marshes. A single linear boundary ditch can be seen exending 65m NE from the settlement. This may be the same site as a boundary seen as parallel ditches recorded as MWX17900. These features were all mapped as part of the Historic England Isle of Thanet project in 2024 (12-13).
