Monument record TR 26 NE 74 - Early to late medieval ditched enclosure, St. Nicholas at Wade

Summary

A large double ditched cropmark enclosure was identified in fields to the north of St. Nicholas at Wade roundabout. Excavations at the site in 1979 revealed that the enclosure had been occupied over a number of phases from the 10th - 15th centuries. Amongst the finds revealed at the site were pottery sherds, animal bones, human skeletal material and sea shells. The site was thought to have originated as a Bronze Age settlement or farmstead (see TR 26 NE 1043).
