Monument record TR 26 NE 126 - Possible medieval occupation site, Monkton

Summary

The remains of a possible medieval occupation site were found near Monkton during work on a pipeline trench for a water main in 1987. An area of burnt soil extending over an area of about 20m was revealed. A pit filled with midden material, was also uncovered and amongst the finds extracted from this were sherds of Saxo-Norman dating to the 10th and early 11th centuries.

Full Description

TR 282655. Medieval occupation site. During work on the Calcott to Manston water main in 1987, a pipe line trench revealed an area of burnt soil extending for about 20m and a pit filled with midden material, amongst which were sherds of Saxo-Norman (10th-11th century)pottery. (1)
