Monument record TR 26 NE 127 - Circular enclosure cropmark, near Monkton

Summary

The cropmark of circular enclosure is recorded in the Isle of Thanet sites and Monuments Archive, located to the north of Monkton roundabout. The cropmarks reportedly indicate a circular ditched enclosure some 35m in diameter with evidence of a causeway entrance. There are 4 internal features visible. They include a central pit, a small circular ditch an internal feature within the entrance causeway and a rectangular feature. The remains have been identified as either a late Neolithic henge monument or a very complex site based upon an early Iron Age farmstead. The precise location of this feature is in some doubt due to contradicting information recorded on the Isle of Thanet Sites and Monuments Archive.
