Monument record TR 26 NE 128 - Medieval occupation site, near Monkton

Summary

The remains of a medieval occupation site were discovered during work on a new water pipeline in 1987. Located to the north of Monkton roundabout, this site consisted of a series of ditches and pits, from which an assemblage of pottery sherds dating to the 12th to 15th centuries was recovered. The features have been also been identified as cropmarks from aerial photographs of the area.

Full Description

TR 287660. Medieval settlement. During the installation of the Calcott to Manston water main in 1987, a medieval occupation site was encountered. It consisted of a series of ditches and pits. Ditches can also be observed as a cropmark in an aerial photograph. Pot sherds of 12th-15th century A.D. were found. (1)
