Monument record TR 26 NE 130 - Cropmark of circular enclosure, near Monkton roundabout

Summary

The cropmark of a circular enclosure is located with a number of similar features to the north of Monkton roundabout. This feature was reported in the Isle of Thanet Sites and Monuments Archive as c.30m in diameter and formed of concentric ditches with a causeway entrance. There was also reportedly a central internal feature, possibly a a pit and a large pit cutting the ditched opposite the causeway. The feature was identified as a late Neolithic henge, perhaps modified as a barrow in the early Bronze Age. There is some doubt as to the precise location of this feature due to contradicting information within the original record.
