Findspot record TR 26 NE 136 - Late Bronze Age hoard, Shuart Farm, St. Nicholas at Wade

Summary

A late Bronze Age hoard was discovered by a metal detectorist at Shuart Farm in 1982. The initial discovery of 23 items has been supplemented by subsequent finds made during ploughing at the site. The finds are typical of a bronze smith's hoard consisting of fragmentary remains of broken or worn out objects to be melted down. Amongst the finds were fragments of axes, swords, 'bun ingots' and cauldron legs. These artefacts have been dated by type to the late Bronze Age (identified as belonging to the Ewart Park and Carp's Tongue Sword traditions, c.700-500 B.C.).
