Summary

The remains of a medieval pier or quay were reportedly found at Down Barton Farm during construction work in the 1930s. This is now the site of a cow barn. A cemetery of unknown date was also reportedly discovered during work to dig post holes. No further information about this discovery is known. Down Barton Farm was reportedly the site of an ancient manor but the current farm house appears to be early Georgian.

Full Description

TR 255663. Medieval dock and cemetery. Down Barton Farm was the site of an ancient manor, although the farm house presently standing appears to be early Georgian. The byre just west of the farm house is supposed to have the remains of a pier or quay beneath its foundations. This was said to have been exposed during building work in the 1930s. There is said to be a burial ground on land to the west of the farm. This was found when digging post holes in the raised way going out to the wantsum. (1)
