Monument record TR 26 NW 4 - Romano-British rubbish pit

Summary

Two Roman pits dating to the late 2nd to 3rd century were exposed in 1947 and 1949 in the cliff face at Reculver. Finds included pottery, a penannular brooch, coins, building debris and part of a Romano-Gaulish clay cult figurine. The pits were destroyed by coastal erosion in 1953. The finds were presented to the Royal Museum at Canterbur
