Full Description
TR 24406395. Salt workings. Two Red Hill sites spaced about 100m apart were discovered during the construction of the Calcott-Ramsgate water pipeline. Domestic pottery consisted of flint tempered and sand tempered sherds of Canterbury wares belonging to the period 9th to 12th century. While no briquettage was identified, the Hills yielded many amorphous pieces of soft red daub. This site is beyond the boundary of Thanet in the alluvial plains of Wantsum Channel but is included because of its relationship with TR 26SE 27. (1) TSMR site 0277. (2)
