Full Description

Several Anglo-Saxon objects were exhibited at a meeting of the Archaeological Institute in June 1852 by Ambrose Poynter. They were found very near the surface on the estate of the Rev. John Monins at Ringwould, in trenching the ground to make a garden, at a point where the soil over the chalk is very shallow. The remains of two skeletonswere found at the same time. The objects, two iron spearheads, a Ferrrule, a knife, a buckle and a buckle plate were all presented to the British Museum. A map in Deal Castle Museum shows the find spot at approximately TR 35914832, which falls in a shubbery on the south-west side of the drive to Ringwould House, which is still occupied by the Monins family.
