Full Description
TR 376465. A mesolithic Adze was discovered on ploughed land close tothe Golf Links at Kingsdown, near Deal, by Mrs M E Mungovan. The findspot lies at about 180 ft OD (55m) on the south-east facing slope of adry chalkland valley in the parish of Ringwould, some 300m west of themodern coastline. The implement is a crudely chipped bi-facially worked adze with an 'S'shaped profile (see illustration card). It is 17.2cms long, has a white patina and weighs 400 grams. The British museum commented that it was a complete example of a transversely - sharpened adze-head and dated to the mesolithic period (c8000-3000 BC). This find is a rare example from the Deal area (see also TR 35 SE 77). The implement is in the possession of the finder. (1)
