A votive, or prestige, hoard of three bronze flanged axes and a tanged spearhead are on display in Dover Museum. (A cc. Nos. DA/1 1232-33). They were found in 1856 in a brickfield belonging to Mr F.W. Fry on Union Road, Buckland, and donated by him. No more accurate siting can be obtained. No brickfield is shown in this area in 1872 (c). Other records in the area, TR 34 SW 24, TR 34 SW 26 and TR 34 SW 98, are probably duplicates of these finds, variously recorded as having been found in 1756 and 1856 and matching in terms of description/number and/or museum collection details. Two fields on the north side of the former Union Road (now Coombe Valley Road) are recorded as being brickfields in the Tithe Apportionment for Buckland, dated 1840.
