Full Description
In 1937 whilst digging drains to new houses in a meadow at the top of Markland Road Roman cremation burials and an occupation level with shells and bones were discovered. The finds, presented to Dover Museum, included a dolium, a flagon, two large ollas, and three Golla-Roman bowls (two incomplete) with potters stamps COCVRO, AVIIOCOF and DRAXCIM. (Acc Nos A1:201-8, 241-6). They are no longer identifiable in the Museum which was bombed in the 1939-45 war. No further information could be obtained towards an exact siting either at the Museum or at the Dover Borough Engineers Department, but it would appear to be in the area centred TR 301412. (1)
The site of the cemetery is marked as B6 on the illustration card. (2)
