Monument record TR 34 SW 115 - Roman features located near Chapel Place, Dover

Summary

Trenching up to 8 feet in depth near Chapel Place, Dover, in 1938, located an area of made ground which had been levelled up the chalk face. Roman material was found in this levelling, with pieces of tufa at the bottom. Human bones were located resting above this area of made ground, with the head facing towards the south-east. Alongside this further human bones were recovered within the made ground itself. (location accurate to the nearest 100m based on available information).
