Summary

During work at the western end of Adrian Street, Dover in 1938 an area of made ground was uncovered containing Roman material. The surface of the made ground was situated approximately 2.5m below the ground surface. (location accurate to the nearest 1m based on available information)

Full Description

Roman finds were discovered in an area of made ground during excavations associated with the construction of a new road and surface drain at the western end of Adrian Street (centred TR 31854120) starting from near the top of Five Post Lane where a surface drain was dug to a depth of approximately 2.5m. The finds included the neck of a glass bottle, pieces of human skull, a dice-like object with hollows in the sides, a small tube ornamented with raised rings, two samian bases 'one with part of a stamp' and pieces of tufa.
