Full Description

(TR 3041) (Sited to locality only) Roman cemetery, Buckland. A small Roman cemetery at Buckland, said to contain 'dozens of burials' was found in 1859 (site B3 on illustration card). (1-2) Reference is made to the Buckland cemetery. (3) Passing reference is made to the cemetery. (4)

18 pottery vessels and one of glass are listed and illustrated. The land on which these were found was described as on the Dover and Folkestone Road and as formerly belonging to Mr Kingsford. (2) Alfred Kingsford is recorded as owning or occupying land on the Tithe Apportionment for Buckland, mostly around what is labelled as the Buckland Brewery on the 1st edition OS mapping of the area. The cemetery was therefore probably located in this area though the exact findspot is not known.
