Full Description
During rescue excavations undertaken by Kent Archaeological Rescue Unit in Dover town centre undertaken by Kent Archaeological Rescue Unit an Anglo Saxon silver sceatta was uncovered. This was the only Saxon coin uncovered during the excavations, it is silver and is of an early 8th century date and a type known across southern England. It was located resting upon a thin patch of metalling to the west of an Anglo Saxon Hut (S11). The coin could have been lost at any time after about 720 A.D. (1-2)
