Full Description
TR 33695521 Part of a Bronze Age socketed axe head was found on the surface in a ploughed field on the east side of Jubilee road at its junction with the main A258, Deal - Sandwich road by Roger Tyman in October 1983. The field occupies the top of a chalk ridge. The fragment consists of the solid cutting end of a socketed axe. Themetal is in a seasonable condition and the surfaces are covered with agreen patina. The cutting edge is some 46mm across and the piece survives for a length of 30mm, its maximum thickness being 13mm. Modern damage has been slight and it seems to have been broken in antiquity. This may represent a piece of scrap metal intended to be re-cast. Information from R. Tyman who retains the fragment. (1)
