Full Description
TR 31115598. A Dene hole was discovered at Highborough Hill 750m south of Woodnesborough church and 250m east of the Dover Richborough Roman Road in September 1978. The farmer, Mr Vincent noticed that when the corn was being cut a hole appeared in one of his fields. He informed the Dover Archaeological Group who measured the Dene Hole. It proved to be at least 3.80 metres deep though excavation was not possible. It is probably post-medieval in date. The shaft was backfilled. (1 - 2)
