Full Description
(TR) 362512. Two 1st century Roman vessels were found, c 1890, in a disused chalk quarry 100 yards south west of Douglas Avenue, Mill Hill, Deal, by the father of R.A Adamson of Wesk Wickham. a) Urn of soft black ware, height 7.25 inches, diameter 5.5 inches, base 2.5 inches. Restored from fragments and showing characteristic first century features. b) Samian patera, height 1.25 inches, diameter 6.75 inches, base 3.25 inches. Stamped BASSI, the work of the potter Bassus from La Graufesenque. This specimen is in almost perfect condition. Claudian-Vespasian AD 40 - 80. Both vessels are in the possession of R.I Little. (1)
