A hand-made cooking pot of hard, sandy, light grey clay, on display in Deal Castle Museum (Stebbing Collection) was found in 1937 at 6 feet 6 inches depth in loam, when the foundations were being dug for the Odeon Cinema, Queen Street, Deal, centred at TR 37565260. The pot is Frankish in character but it "might well pass as Roman". In Deal Town Hall Museum and found on the same site in 1937 are a Jutish pot and a Roman patera. No further information concerning these finds could be obtained during fieldwork. (1) TR 376528. A bowl-shaped urn found in 1937 on the site of the Odeon Cinema, Deal, was Anglo-Saxon in shape, but the ware was considered to be better than usual - hard baked and similar to that of the Jutish bottle vases.
