Full Description

Two Roman C1st/C2nd cremations were discovered on the new housing estate, west of Orchard Avenue in 1950 during excavations for drainage trenches. Accompanying pottery included a small brownish ware water-bottle, now on display in Deal Town Hall, a small plain beaker (Richborough Type No. 63) and a large olla of soft brown ware with a black fumed surface (Swarling Type No. 32 Another vessel was crushed. No further information could be gained during field investigation and neither the council nor Builders could offer information. (1)
