In 1913 an Anglo-Saxon inhumation burial found at Mongeham Bottom. No further information could be obtained regarding the exact find-spot or circumstances of discovery, but distribution maps in Deal Reference Library (c) and Deal Castle Museum show an 'Anglo-Saxon find' symbol at a disused and grassed over stone-pit in Mongeham Bottom at TR 35075102. A large bronze pin with a cubical head facetted at the angles (C6th-C8th), two bronze finger rings and a small C6th saucer brooch decorated with a human face, found with the burial, are in Deal Castle Museum (Deal Town Hall Collection). (1) ? Inhumation cemetery, Great Mongeham. A Kentish-type button brooch, a belt-plate and a bronze pin were found at the stone pits at Mongeham Bottom, and were probably from a single burial or even several burials. In Deal Town Hall Museum. The site may be as much as several hundred yards from the pot found in 1911 (TR 35 SE 47), but it is possibly part of the same cemetery. (2) Additional reference (3-7)
