Full Description
TR 373537. Twelve sherds of Roman pottery found in December 1984 by A. Oxford on an area of recently cleared ground, about 250m north of Deal gas-works. This is on the west side of Golf Rd, opposite Links Rd. A further six shereds were recovered from spoil heaps around a newly excavated drainage pit. The pottery came from the boundary between two layers of soil, approximately 30 cms below the surface. Atotal of eighteen sherds were recovered and belonged to at least ten different vessels. There were two sherds of samian, three of a hard sandy fabric and thirteen of local native wares. The pottery was dated to the later 1st - 2nd century AD. The finds have been placed in store in Dover Museum. (1)
